Amazing Maria denies Ervedya in Rothschild

AMAZING MARIA impressively continued her winning run, but in so doing ended Ervedya's unbeaten record this season, when landing the valuable Prix Rothschild at Deauville.
Coronation Stakes winner Ervedya was taking on the older fillies for the first time and was settled in behind the leader Amulet early on with Olivier Peslier tracking them on the daughter of Mastercraftsman.
Entering the final furlong Ervedya was going well and smoothly took up the lead.
Peslier had not asked his filly any questions though and the David O'Meara-trained four-year-old responded very quickly when he did, sweeping past the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained Ervedya to win by one and three quarter lengths with Bawina following in third.
A winner of a Group 3 as a juvenile,
Amazing Maria has improved enormously for O'Meara since joining from Ed Dunlop early this year.
This victory means she adds a second Group 1 to her CV after landing the Qipco Falmouth at Newmarket last time out.

'Comfortably'"She looked like she won pretty comfortably today. She is very versatile," O'Meara said.
"At Ascot we sat her in last and at Newmarket they had been winning from the front all week so James [Doyle] made sure he got a nice close position."
"Today there was no real plan going out. Olivier knows Deauville much better than me, I 've never had a runner here before. I just told him to go out and try and win."
